Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi

BY TRAVIS

Arrival & First Impressions

From the moment we touched down in Malé, the Waldorf team orchestrated a seamless transition into paradise. We were greeted at the airport by a dedicated representative who whisked us away to the resort’s private lounge which is a tranquil space with refreshments and cool towels. The journey continues aboard the resort’s custom-built yacht, a 40-minute cruise across the turquoise waters of the South Malé Atoll. This isn’t just a transfer, it’s a luxury experience in itself. Their yacht had plush seating, they served chilled drinks, and we had panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. We were welcomed at the jetty by the resort's friendly, smiling staff with cool coconut water. The check-in process was discrete and personalized, and conducted in my villa.

The Stay

I had a Grand Beach Pool Villa which was a masterpiece of design and serenity. The villa’s layout was both expansive and intimate, featuring a plush, oversized lounge room and stylish dining areas which were thoughtfully separated from the bedroom. There was a private infinity pool with a daybed on either side and 2 lazy boys actually in the pool. The bathroom was a sanctuary in itself. A stunning freestanding bathtub that overlooked the pool and my own private beach. Both indoor and outdoor rain showers offered a sensory experience and the bathrobes? Easily the softest and most luxurious I’ve ever worn, like wrapping yourself in a cloud.

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCES

A first-of-its-kind in the Maldives, their overwater wellness sanctuary features a hydrotherapy pool with massage jets targeting different muscle groups, alongside a menu of holistic treatments, meditation, and yoga sessions. For the ultimate in seclusion, guests can book the resort’s ultra-exclusive private island. With its own dedicated team, private villas, spa, entertainment pavilion, and personal chef, it’s a destination within a destination. You can also dine in handcrafted bamboo pods perched above the palms at their restaurant Terra. It offers an unforgettable tasting menu experience with rare wines and premium ingredients like Miyazaki Wagyu and Alba truffles. It’s one of the most exclusive dining settings in the Maldives.

WHY WE LOVE IT

With 11 dining venues, from refined Japanese omakase to beachfront Middle Eastern feasts, the resort delivers a gastronomic journey rivaling the best in the world. Beach Club Nava is one of the best I’ve seen, where barefoot luxury meets curated beats and sunset cocktails. Visually, every corner is a postcard, from palm-lined pathways to sweeping views. Exploring the island by pushbike, with each villa’s own set, felt carefree and indulgent. What truly sets the Waldorf apart is its intuitive, heartfelt service. I couldn’t recommend it more.

PATINA MALDIVES

BY DANIEL

Arrival & First Impressions

From the moment I landed in Malé, the Patina experience began. A warm welcome from the resort’s team led to a smooth speedboat transfer across turquoise waters to the Fari Islands. Upon arrival, I was greeted with refreshing coconut water, cool towels, and a genuine sense of hospitality that immediately set the tone for my stay. The vibe? Ultra-modern meets laid-back island luxury. You instantly feel like you've arrived somewhere special.

The Stay

The stunning villas at Patina Maldives strike the perfect balance between cool minimalism and high-end luxury. My One Bedroom Sunset Water Pool Villa featured floor-to-ceiling windows, which completely opened up onto an expansive deck with private pool, outdoor rain shower, uninterrupted stunning views of the horizon, and direct access to the crystal clear lagoon. Every detail, from the mood lighting to the Frette bedding, was thoughtfully designed for comfort and tranquility. Service throughout the stay was unobtrusive yet attentive – the dedicated Essentialist (butler) ensured I never had to lift a finger, yet always felt free to explore independently. Dining was a highlight, with a range of exceptional restaurants offering everything from plant-based cuisine to Japanese fine dining.

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCES

What sets Patina apart are its curated experiences that go beyond the ordinary – from snorkelling with turtles and sharks, to a private champagne sunset cruise, or a Maldivian cooking class with one of their Executive Chefs. The FLOW wellness sanctuary offered grounding therapies, and the on-site art installations—like the ethereal Skyspace by James Turrell—created moments of introspection and awe. The Fari Marina Village added another dimension, with boutique shopping, galleries, and a sense of community rarely found on a private island.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Patina Maldives isn’t just another luxury resort—it’s a holistic escape that nurtures the mind, body, and soul. We love its sustainability ethos, from zero-waste policies to solar-powered facilities, without ever compromising on comfort or style. The design is stunning, the experiences are enriching, and the atmosphere is both peaceful and inspiring. Whether you're seeking romance, solitude, or meaningful connection, Patina delivers it all with quiet sophistication. Personally, I left feeling totally recharged, inspired, and already planning my return.

SONEVA JANI

BY ALISON

Arrival & First Impressions

From the moment we arrived by seaplane, Soneva Jani felt like a dream. The turquoise lagoon stretched endlessly, and our personal butler and the hotel general manager welcomed us with genuine warmth. Walking along the overwater boardwalk barefoot, with nothing but sky and sea around us, set the tone for the unforgettable days ahead.

The Stay

Our villa was beyond extraordinary — spacious, light-filled, and opening directly onto the lagoon. Waking up to ocean views, sliding straight into the water, and stargazing through the retractable roof above our bed felt surreal. Every detail was effortless, and the service was thoughtful without ever being intrusive. Our butler had a handyman come and install a baby gate to ensure our 1-year-old was safe and unable to crawl up the stairs to the waterslide.

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCES

Every day offered something memorable — from watching films under the stars at Cinema Paradiso, to stargazing at the observatory, to indulging in the famous ice cream and chocolate rooms (a daily ritual!). Snorkeling with manta rays was a once-in-a-lifetime highlight, and every meal felt like a discovery of flavors and creativity.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Soneva Jani captures the true essence of barefoot luxury. It’s a place where you can completely unwind, reconnect with nature, and still enjoy the very best of world-class service and dining. It’s playful yet refined, indulgent yet sustainable. Most of all, it creates memories you’ll carry with you long after you leave.

Having travelled there with my husband and 1 year old baby, the staff made our stay truly unforgettable. The babysitting services and kids club were the best I have ever experienced, so the resort really does cater to all travelling there.

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

BY TRAVIS

Arrival & First Impressions

From the moment we approached the jetty, the resort’s team stood waiting, waving with great big smiles. It wasn’t just a welcome, it was a celebration of our arrival. We were greeted with chilled champagne and cool towels and then came the moment that truly set the tone - the traditional art of sabrage. The champagne flowed, and for a moment, it felt like I’d stepped onto the set of a luxury film. Our welcome at The St. Regis Maldives was more than a ritual, it’s a memory etched in champagne, smiles and something I'll never forget.

The Stay

I stayed in a Beach Villa with a private pool, everything I imagined a Maldivian escape should be. The details were breathtaking, but the most memorable touch was from Umid, my private butler, who prepared the jacuzzi with a floating flower note reading “Welcome Home,” setting the tone for my stay.

Steps from the ocean and fringing reef, the villa overlooked turquoise waters and white sand, where I’d watch sea turtles and eagle rays drift past. With elegant design and glass doors opening onto a private terrace, it felt seamlessly connected to nature. Umid ensured every detail was handled with warmth and precision.

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCES

The Iridium Spa is one of the most iconic overwater wellness sanctuaries in the Maldives, designed to deliver transformative, sensory-rich experiences in a setting that’s as breathtaking as it is serene. One of the spa’s signature features is the Blue Hole Pool, located on a covered terrace. It’s one of the largest hydrotherapy pools in the Maldives, equipped with massage jets targeting different muscle groups for full-body relaxation. It was perfect after a workout in their fitness centre.

Each evening at the Whale bar (shaped like a whale shark), we'd gather for a few sunset cocktails and witness the art of sabrage, a tradition that dates back to Napoleon’s era and has become a signature of the St. Regis brand. It was incredible to watch.

WHY WE LOVE IT

With only 77 villas, each offering seclusion, the resort caters perfectly to UHNW individuals and celebrities who value discretion. The marine life is incredible with whale sharks, manta/eagle rays, sea turtles and vibrant reefs right at the doorstep. The St. Regis Maldives isn’t just a resort, it’s a stage for cinematic luxury storytelling, where every detail (from architecture to marine life) can be woven into an unforgettable narrative for discerning clients.
